The month celebrates the heritages and cultures of Americans from or with ancestors from Mexico\, the Caribbean\, Spain and Central and South America.\n\n\n\nLatinx Heritage month first began in 1968 as "Hispanic Heritage Week"\, and expanded to a 30-day period in mid-September\, this recognizes the anniversary of the independence of Latin American countries: Costa Rica\, El Salvador\, Guatemala\, Honduras and Nicaragua.
