Black History Month Film Series: Moonlight (2016)
Although there was some confusion during the Academy Awards ceremony over the 2016 Best Picture winner, there is little doubt that Moonlight is one of the most beautiful and heart-wrenching films ever to earn the distinction. A chronicle of the childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood of a gay African-American man growing up in a rough neighborhood of Miami, Moonlight is an urgent social document, a poetic drama about race and identity, and a challenging and moving work of cinematic triumph. Join us for a showing of this powerful film, where we will be hosting a thought-provoking discussion afterward with Erica Ocegueda and Donna Thompson, both from the Chandler/Gilbert Community College.
