Commissioner Lea Márquez Peterson was elected to the AZ Corporation Commission in 2020 and was elected by her fellow commissioners to Chair which she served for two years.
Lea was appointed by the Governor in May 2019, and with her appointment became the first Latina to serve in a statewide seat in the state of Arizona. She is the only Commissioner who does not live in Maricopa County. Her first term ends in 2025 and she is currently running for a second term.
Lea has been an entrepreneur for many years and was honored to be selected as the 2022 Hispanic Business Woman of the Year by the USHCC. She served as the President/CEO of the Tucson Hispanic Chamber for close to ten years and as the Executive Director of Greater Tucson Leadership.
Previously, Lea owned a Business Brokerage firm with five agents and built and operated a chain of six gasoline stations / convenience stores with fifty employees.
